The Missouri State field hockey team lost to Mid-American Conference foe Miami University 9-1, Sunday afternoon in Oxford, Ohio. The loss drops the Bears to 1-13, 0-4 in the MAC. Miami improves to 5-8, 3-2 in the MAC.
Miami scored five of the its nine goals in the first half. Two goals by Taylor Florence and one each by Laura Seidel and Maggie Marcum were all assisted by Elizabeth Gilroy. Marcum scored the fifth goal unassisted.
Miami scored two more goals in the second half by Megan McCurty and Christine Brightwell, before freshman Jennifer Portell put one in for the Bears. Kelly Irwin and Sarah Johnson were credited with the assists. The Redhawks put two more in by McMurty and Danielle Gaynor before the game ended.
Both Missouri State goalkeepers saw action today. Kim Kinsella allowed five goals and collected fives saves in the first half, while Jessica Schuster allowed four goals and collected four saves in the second half.
The Bears will play two games at Central Michigan University next weekend, Saturday Oct. 13, time game is at 10 a.m., and Sunday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m.
