The Missouri State volleyball team completed its fifth consecutive sweep and sixth straight win overall Friday evening with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-14, 30-25) victory over Temple University at the Utah Classic in Salt Lake City.

The Bears (7-1) left little doubt from the beginning of game one, jumping out to a 10-3 advantage and leading by as many as 14 points on the way to the 30-18 win. Missouri State hit .275 in the period, and dug an astonishing 24 balls as a unit. Adeana McAfee picked up nine of her team-high 17 digs in the first game alone.

Game two was another lopsided affair, with the Bears hitting .345 and the Owls .029, as Missouri State took the 2-0 match lead with a 30-14 victory. Missouri State used runs of 5-0 and 9-0 to fuel the game two win. Jamie Adams paced the offense in the second stanza with six kills in eight attempts without an error.

The Owls fought back in game three to leave the match in doubt until the very end. Missouri State pulled ahead by as many as eight points before Temple cut the MSU advantage to 26-23. Head coach Melissa Stokes called a timeout to let the team regroup from the Owls’ three-point run, and the Bears closed out the match with an ace by Erin O’Connor and a kill from Sara Thomas.

Individually, Adams and O’Connor led the way with 12 kills apiece. Adams hit .435, making just two errors in 23 attempts. O’Connor recorded her second double-double of the day by contributing 11 digs.

Shanda Harper added eight kills and five block assists while Sarah Lansing chipped in seven putaways. Katelyn Panzau had 41 of the team’s 45 assists.

The Bears recorded a .274 team hitting percentage while holding Temple to .061. Missouri State has now held seven of its eight opponents below .105 in attack efficiency.

Missouri State finishes play at the tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. against 24th-ranked Utah.
