In the first week of the field hockey season, junior goalkeeper Kim Kinsella has been named to the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Kinsella had 10 saves during the Bears' season opener against Saint Louis, but took the loss on a penalty stroke in the 11th minute of the first half.
"It's a great honor for Kim to receive this award," said Bears' head coach Dawn Porter. "Kim is a solid goalkeeper with quick reflexes. She had a great game versus Saint Louis and made key saves to keep us in the game."
A rematch against the Billikens is scheduled for the Bears home opener at Plaster Field on Sept. 13. at 7:00 p.m. The Bears next games are on Sept. 1 and 2 in Evanston, Ill, against Northwestern and Maine. Both games are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
