A pair of high school standouts from the Kansas City metro area have committed to join the Missouri State women's golf team for the 2007-08 season. The newest Bears are Madison Maddox of Lee's Summit West High and Logan Thorp of Blue Springs South High.
Maddox is a two-time district champion and earned all-state honors last month to cap off a senior season in which she compiled a 73.4 scoring average. She was a three-time conference champion and tied for eighth at the Class 2 Missouri State High School Championship this past season.
Thorp was a two-time all-stater after finishing 10th at the Class 2 state meet last month and fifth as a junior. She was a four-time all-district performer and also placed 12th at the Missouri Women's Amateur Championship last summer. A two-sport standout at South High, she also holds the school records in soccer for most goals scored in a game, season and career.
“Madi and Logan have competed a lot against each other in their high school careers, and now they'll have the opportunity to be on the same side," said Bears' coach Kevin Kane. "They're both excellent players already, but they have tremendous potential and possess a great work ethic and desire to get better. They're great additions to our team."
The Bears are coming off their best fall season ever, having posted a victory at the Oral Roberts Shootout to go with runnerup finishes at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate and Missouri Valley Conference Preview.
