The Missouri State women's golf team closed out its 2006 fall campaign with a runnerup finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview in Peoria, Ill., Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 30-31).  The Bears posted 312-315--627 to finish second, five strokes behind Southern Illinois.  Bradley was third with 634, followed by  Illinois State (635), UNI (642), Wichita State (643), Indiana State (663), Drake (671) and Creighton (678).
    The tournament was intended to provide the conference teams with a preview look at the Weaver Ridge Golf Club, the par 72, 6043-yard layout where the State Farm MVC Championship will be contested in the spring.
    The Bears had three top 10 finishers, with junior Lyndsey Adams leading the way with 74-80--154.  Adams entered the final round with a two-stroke lead, but slipped to a tie for third.  Junior Missy Linnens shot 76-79--155 for a fifth-place tie, and senior Sally Hinton tied for seventh with 80-76--156.
    The other Missouri State finishers included Amy Phalajivin, who tied for 21st with 83-80--163; Lindsey Wellenstein, 28th with 82-84--166; and Mallory Mahon, a tie for 46th with 92-87--179.
    The tournament concluded a fall season which saw the Bears grab a win at the ORU Shootout, second at Iowa and the MVC Preview, fourth at Nebraska and sixth at the Legends Shootout in Indiana.  The spring season opens for MSU at the Islander Spring Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, Feb. 26-27.
