The Missouri State field hockey team was defeated by Ball State University, 2-1, in Muncie, Indiana, in Mid-American Conference play Sunday. The loss puts the Bears at 1-3 in the conference and 5-6 overall while Ball State improves to 2-2 in the MAC, 3-9 for the season.
 Six minutes into the game, Ball State had scored its only two goals. The first goal scored was by Tara Reed with an assist by Katie Kloeckener. The second Ball State goal was scored by Lindsay Quay, unassisted.
 The Bears answered with a goal by senior Stephani Wehrman at 12:28 off a penalty corner from Katie Schwartz.
 Missouri State was outshot 22-9 and earned less penalty corners, 9-7, than Ball State.
 Goalkeeper Kim Kinsella added 16 saves to push her total to 103 saves on the season with a .858 save percentage.
 Missouri State also lost to Miami University, 7-0, in Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday, October 7.
 The Bears play at home October 14 and 15 with two matches against Central Michigan. Saturday's game starts at 10:30a.m. and Sunday's game starts at 12 p.m.
