The Missouri State women's soccer team dropped its second Missouri Valley Conference game of the season in a 2-1 decision Friday to Indiana State at Plaster Field. The Bears offensively outplayed the Sycamores taking 24 shots to ISU's nine but Indiana State capitalized on the chances it had and outscored Missouri State 2-1.
The loss drops Missouri State to 8-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the Valley. Indiana State improves to 7-4-1 on the season and is 2-0 in the conference.
The Bears lone goal was scored by senior Angela Parsons in the 51st minute of the game. Parsons blasted a powerful shot off a free kick over Indiana State's goalkeeper, Rachel Rudzis. The goal tied the match at 1-1 and marked Parson's first score of the season.
The Sycamores put their first goal of the game on the board at 14:28 as a free kick by Callie McDonough found Marie Dyas who headed the ball into the right corner of the net after it bounced off MSU goalkeeper Jackie Jasper's fingertips.
In the 67th minute of the game, Rudzis booted the ball past the Bears' defensive line to Sycamores' Lauren Podolski who found herself one-on-one with Jasper and kicked the ball with her left foot into the right corner to score what proved to be the game-winner. Goalkeeper Rudzis picked up her first assist on the season.
Meghan Cassady led the Bears with four shots with Chelsea Anderson and Lauren Heck posting three apiece. Parsons, Allison Osmundson, Kate Hercules, Laura Galati, Nicole Logan and Caroline Sweeney each added two. Kate Blair and Samantha Aguilar recorded one each.
Missouri State will be back in action Sunday, October 8, at Plaster Field to host the University of Evansville at 1 p.m.
