The Missouri State field hockey team lost to Ohio University 4-1 in Athens, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference play. The loss drops the Bears to 5-10 for the season, 1-7 in the MAC while Ohio improves to 9-7 on the season, 6-2 in the conference.
The Bears scored first off a scramble in front of the net from senior Mel Behr in the fourth minute of the game.
Ohio tied the score at one at the 21st minute off a goal by Katelyn Shelley with an assist by Torrie Albini. The Bobcats scored three more times in the second half to put the Bears away for good. Their goals were scored by Megan Rentschler, Estienne Coetzee, both with assists from Rachelle Coetzee, and a goal scored unassisted by Marcy Dull.
Missouri State goalkeeper Kim Kinsella added eight saves to push her total to 144 for the season, but allowed all four of Ohio's goals. Kinsella's save percentage sits at .832. For the past four weeks, Kinsella has been number one nationally in save percentage.
The Bears close out the regular season at home against Miami University on Friday, October 27, at noon and Ball State on Saturday, October 29, at 11 a.m.
