This week's Murney Student-Athlete of the Week is Missouri State swimming and diving's Lily DeSpain. DeSpain secured a team-leading five gold medals in Missouri State's bid for an eighth straight MVC Championship over the weekend. Three of her five wins came in record-breaking fashion, setting a new Valley best time in the 400 IM (4:14.92). Her other two records were won in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:12.19) to start the meet and in the 400-yard freestyle relay where she anchored the team to a time of 3:18.87. She also won gold with MVC season-best times in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.23) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.89). She also anchored a Bears bronze medal finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.50).
