A team leader and exceptional outside hitter, Sara Staubach looks to earn all-MVC honors for a third time as a senior.
Junior (2008)
A first-team all-MVC selection, Staubach paced the Bears with 389 kills and 2.86 per set on .230 hitting ... Ranked ninth in school history with 1,168 attacks on the year ... Had 22 double-figure kill matches and led the Bears 13 times in that category ... Hit .300 or better 14 times and .400 or better on six occasions ... Ranked 12th in the MVC in kills and 20th in hitting percentage ... Made a pair of all-tournament teams in the non-conference, averaging 3.36 kills and hitting .263 at the Carolina Classic, and hitting .280 with 3.10 kills per set in the four-match Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational ... Slammed a Missouri State season-high 21 kills on .300 hitting at Southern Illinois (10/10) ... Had 18 kills and hit .410 against Evansville (11/8), and topped the 15-kill plateau nine times ... Had 110 digs on the year for a 0.81 per set average, with a season high of nine in the MVC Tournament against Illinois State (11/27) ... Totaled 52 blocks (0.38/set), including five in the 10/10 win at SIU ... Served up three aces on 9/13 versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff ... Sophomore (2007)
Staubach was a second-team all-MVC choice after averaging 3.38 kills per set on .213 hitting ... Her 3.38 kill average ranked eighth in the league ... Led the Bears in kills in eight matches, including a career-high 23 (on .370 hitting) in just three sets at Creighton (10/13) ... Hit double figures in kills 19 times ... Staubach was also an MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention pick ... Topped the 20-kill mark with 21 at Illinois State (9/22), hitting .391 in that match ... Staubach played in 31 matches and 52 sets with one start ... Tallied 45 kills for a 0.87 per set average, and posted a season-high nine on .368 hitting against Drake (10/13) ... Had eight kills at Illinois State (9/17) and five at Indiana State (9/16) ... Also had four digs in the Illinois State match ... Was a part of eight blocks on the year, including three in a five-set victory at Colorado State (8/26) in the first weekend.
Background
Staubach was a four-year starter for head coach Molly McDermott at Archbishop McNicholas High School in Cincinnati, Ohio . . . Staubach led the Rockets to a 2005 district championship and a regional semifinal appearance . . . She had 36 kills in a match to set a new school record and earned first team GGCL and all-city honors, as well as being named third-team all-state . . . The Rockets were district champs and regional semifinalists in Staubach's sophomore and junior seasons . . . Her AAU squad won the Junior Olympic Louisville Invitational and was third in the nation at the 2005 Open Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah . . . She was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.
