At Missouri State: Jana Shewmaker will be called upon to provide veteran leadership while sharing first base duties with Ashley Knehans in her third and final year in a Bears uniform.
2008: As a junior, Shewmaker appeared in 40 games for the Bears, making 30 starts at first base ... went 2-for-3 and drove in three of MSU's four runs in the Bears' 4-0 win over North Dakota State in the Holiday Inn Select Tulsa Festival (2/24) ... delivered a two-run single as part of the Bears' seven-run fourth inning that sealed a 13-3 victory over Central Arkansas (2/24) ... recorded a season-high three-game hit streak from March 19-22 that included a key RBI-single against 11th-ranked Oklahoma as part of the Bears' 3-2 win in Norman ... posted her second two-hit day of the season vs. Southern Illinois (4/26).
2007: Shewmaker made 30 starts and appeared in 38 games total, batting .253. She went 5-for-11 with a double, triple and nine RBIs en route to earning all-tournament honors at the Holiday Inn Select Tulsa Festival, highlighted by a 3-for-4, five-RBI day against Eastern Illinois (2/24). She recorded four RBIs against Southeast Missouri (3/4) and three against UNI (4/7).Background: Shewmaker joined the Bears from St. Louis Community College at Meramec, where she was a Midwest Community College Athletic Conference honorable mention and a first team all-region performer in her only season with the Magic. Following the season, she received NJCAA Academic All-America honors. At Buffalo High, Shewmaker was a four-year starter for coach Brad Roweton. She led the Lady Bison to sectional and district championships. and led the team in RBIs and was voted first team all-conference and all-district, and second team all-state her senior year. As a junior, she was named second team all-conference. Shewmaker played shortstop as a sophomore and grabbed first team all-conference honors and was the team's Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Personal: Jana Nicole Shewmaker is the daughter of Joe and Jeni Shewmaker, who both attended Missouri State. She was born February 12, 1986, in Springfield. She is majoring in psychology.
