Kevin Elliott joined the Missouri State football staff in 2022 under former Bears head coach Bobby Petrino. In 2023, Elliott moved to the safeties position coach under new head coach Ryan Beard.
In his first season at MoState, Elliott mentored the outside linebackers and was part of a solid Bears defensive unit in 2022 that included four all-conference selections. Elliott's position group boasted a number of young standouts, including sophomore stalwart Tahj Chambers who racked up 35 total tackles, 4.5 for loss, a pair of interceptions and 2.0 sacks.
Prior to coming to Springfield, Elliott served the previous two years at Greensboro (N.C.) College as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2020-21.
Prior to his stint in Greensboro, Elliott enjoyed a two-year stint at Concord University where he served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. During that time, Elliott’s defense ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II fumble recovery rankings, while leading the Mountain East Conference. In addition, Elliott coached five All-MEC selections, including an Academic All-American.
Elliott previously served as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Louisville under current Bears head coach Bobby Petrino. While with the Cardinals, Elliott helped bring an ACC Atlantic Division Championship to Louisville in 2016. In addition, the Cardinals also made appearances in the Citrus Bowl and the TaxSlayer Bowl. He was also on the staff that produced Heisman Trophy Winner Lamar Jackson, while also having three players named All-ACC, two NFL draft picks, and one freshman All-American. During this time, the Cardinals ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, 12th in rushing defense, 10th in third-down defense, 22nd in interceptions, and 24th in takeaways.
Before joining the Cardinals staff, Elliott spent three more seasons at Concord where he coached the secondary for three seasons and adding the title of special teams coordinator in 2015. During that time, Elliott had eight All-Conference selections, five All-Region players, and three All-Americans, while also leading the team to the NCAA Division II National Semi-Finals in 2014 and going 13-1. During that season, the Mountain Lions also won the Mountain East Conference title and the Regional Championship.
As a player at Concord, Elliott was a four-year letter winner and was named to the All-Conference team in 2012, while also serving as a team captain. That season, Elliott also finished second in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with four interceptions. The year prior, Elliott and the Mountain Lions won the WVIAC title for the first time in 21 seasons, qualifying for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in program history.
Elliott holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Health Pre K-Adult (2013) and a M.A. in Health Promotion (2015), both from Concord University.
Elliott and his wife, Nikki, have two sons, Brady and Jared, and are currently expecting the arrival of a baby girl.Â
