Golfers Finish Strong at Season Opener

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. -- The Missouri State men's golf team saved its best for last Tuesday (Sept. 8) and moved up two spots to finish 14th at the season-opening Golfweek Fall Challenge at True Blue Golf Club. The Bears posted a two-under-par 286 in the final round, easily their best of the tournament, after opening with 301-295 the first two rounds to finish at 882 for the tournament.
Freshman Francesco Petrangeli paced Mo State with a 68 in the final round and tied for 29th in his first collegiate outing with a 217 total after carding 79-70 the first two days. Junior Caden Cox and freshman Leon Herb, also making their debut for the Bears, tied for 50th with 222 totals. Cox, a transfer from Wichita State, tallied 73-74-75 while Herb shot 73-72-77. Sophomore Pedro Gallegos was a stroke back at 223 after posting 76-79-68 and senior Owen Swearingen carded 80-82-75--237.
Georgia Southern captured the team title at 838, with Troy finishing second at 847 and Georgia State third with 855. USC-Upstate finished fourth, while UT Martin, Old Dominion, Mercer and Tennessee Tech tied for fifth.
MSU is back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 14-15) at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn.
