González and Alves Schmelz Receive American Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The Missouri State men's soccer team tallied the first two American Conference weekly awards of the season. The league announced Monday that Dani González was named Freshman of the Week and junior Fernando Alves Schmelz earned the Goalkeeper of the Week honor.
González hailing from Newbury, England earned the honor after he had a stellar game in the Bear 5-0 domination over Chicago State, scoring his very first goal as a Bear.
Alves Schmelz from Lisbon, Portugal was awarded the honor after earning his first clean sheet in goal, tallying a save in the game against Chicago State.
The Bears (3-0-0) are back on the pitch for their next match on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 8:00 p.m. (CT) to compete at UC Irvine.
