Cross Checking the Bears
- Missouri State returns to action Saturday at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. The Bears will compete in the women's Harter's Habanero 5K at 11 a.m. at Agri Park.
- The Bears enter Saturday following a 19th-place finish in the 29-team Gold Invitational at the Gans Creek Classic, where they finished ahead of Texas, Drake, Vermont, Southern Indiana, Cincinnati and Iowa.
- Missouri State produced four performances that rank among the program's top 15 all-time in the 6K at Gans Creek. Ella Cronhardt ran 21:03.5 for the fifth-fastest mark in program history, followed by Riley Bryan at No. 12 (21:17.7), Makenna Madetzke at No. 14 (21:27.8) and Amy Gotfredson at No. 15 (21:30.1).
- Cronhardt has led Missouri State across the line in each of its first two meets this season. She placed third in 17:38 at Queen City After Dark before finishing 78th against a loaded field at Gans Creek.
- The Bears displayed a tight pack at Gans Creek with six runners finishing within 28.7 seconds of one another. Tabitha Fox made the biggest move of the group, climbing 53 places from the 1,000-meter mark to finish 100th in 21:15.0.
- Missouri State returns to a course where it found plenty of success last season, finishing fifth out of 31 teams at the 2025 Chile Pepper Festival with 137 points. The Bears placed five runners inside the top 50 and 10 inside the top 80 in a field of more than 275 competitors.
- Fox led Missouri State at last year's meet with an 18th-place finish in 17:13.1, which ranks as the fourth-fastest 5K performance in program history. Elsa Henry followed in 28th at 17:27.8, the No. 11 all-time mark, while Cronhardt finished 40th in 17:33.8, which ranks 14th.
- Ella Rew also returns after completing Missouri State's scoring five at last year's Chile Pepper Festival, placing 48th in 17:41.1. Bryan, Gotfredson, Lena Singleton, Britta Foust and Kaitlyn Hatley also gained experience on the Agri Park course last season.
- Agri Park features a combination of grass and cinder terrain with sections through Razorback Meadow and around the course's pond. The University of Arkansas cross country course has hosted SEC and NCAA championship competition.
