The Lady Bear Necessities
  • The Missouri State Lady Bears hit the road for a pair of Conference USA matchups this week, beginning with a visit to UTEP on Thursday night (8:00 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
  • MoState and UTEP are meeting for just the second time in the programs' histories. The only other meeting came on Dec. 4, 2009 at the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic hosted by Kansas State. The Lady Bears won the matchup, 80-73.
  • The Lady Bears were picked to finish fourth in their first season as a member of Conference USA in the league's preseason poll. MoState slotted in behind Louisiana Tech, Liberty and MTSU. Little Rock transfer Faith Lee (Sr., Monroe, La.) was selected to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Kaemyn Bekemeier (Jr., Republic, Mo.) was named Conference USA Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. She is the only repeat winner of the award so far this season. She averaged 28.5 points and 12.5 rebounds across a 2-0 week for MoState, including a career-best 31-point performance on Saturday against Jax State. She is 1 of just 4 players in DI this year to post at least 31 pts and 14 reb in a game.
  • Bekemeier leads MoState this season with 18.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 26 three-pointers. She leads CUSA in total points (295) and defensive rebounds per game (7.3). The 5-9 guard has scored in double figures in a team-leading 15 of 16 games on the season, including 12 straight.
  • Lainie Douglas (So., Overland Park, Kan.) posted her first two career double-doubles last week, setting career highs in rebound in consecutive games (10 vs. Kennesaw State, 11 vs. Jacksonville State).
  • As a team, Missouri State ranks inside the top 10 nationally in: free throw made/game (5th - 18.3) and free throw attempts/game (7th - 24.7). Bekemeier ranks inside the top 10 nationally in FTM (7th - 91) and FTA (9th - 115), while Cady Pauley (Sr., Milan, Mo.) leads CUSA and ranks 45th nationally with an .863 FT%.
  • In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 51-7 when scoring 70+ points, 57-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 43-0 when opponents score less than 60 points. Missouri State is 0-4 this season when allowing 70 or more points.
  • Tale of Two Halves - MoState is -35 on the scoreboard in the first half this season, but flips the switch at the break to own a +89 point differential against its opponents in the second half of games.
  • With a win last Saturday against Jax State, Beth Cunningham secured her 80th victory at the helm of the Lady Bears, and she is just three wins shy of 250 for her head coaching career.
  • MoState is currently 128 in the NET ranking, which ranks third amongst CUSA teams (Louisiana Tech - 107, Sam Houston - 122). UTEP currently checks in at 256, which is 10th in the league.
