
Volleyball Bears Bounce Roos in Straight Sets

St. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri State's volleyball team wrapped up non-conference play Saturday afternoon with a dominant 25-13, 25-19, 25-22 victory against Kansas City in the Missouri Challenge at Chaifetz Pavilion.

The Bears (5-6) hit .302 as a team, with freshman Peyton McKee leading the way with 13 kills on a .429 efficiency. Rilynn Finley added 11 kills and a career-high five blocks, and Lizanyela Lopez hit .588 with 10 kills, five blocks and no errors.

The Bears turned their first five swings into kills to begin the match on a 6-1 run and finished with a .371 efficiency in the opening period, led by Finley's 6-for-8 effort on the attack.

Kansas City (1-12) looked poised to even the contest in the second, slowing building its lead to 17-12 before MoState charged back, finishing with an 8-0 run that included four Peyton McKee kills to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third, MoState used a 7-0 run capped by Rossana Papa's ace for a 15-7 advantage and held off the Roos late to complete the sweep.

MoState limited Kansas City to a .043 hitting percentage, a low for an opponent this season, piling up nine blocks and 61 digs in the three sets. Brooke Eslinger had 16 digs and Kya Johnson added 14.

Missouri State begins embarks on its inaugural Conference USA schedule next weekend with a trip to Florida International for matches on Sept. 26 and 27.
