Cross Checking the Bears
- The Missouri State cross country team will stay close to home this weekend, competing at the Queen City Invitational on Friday, Sept. 13, at Deer Lake Golf Course. The event, co-hosted by Missouri State, Drury, Evangel University and SportsTown, marks another showcase for Springfield cross country after last year's return of regular-season collegiate competition to the city.
- The Bears enter the meet with momentum on their side after winning the Redhawks Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on Aug. 29. Missouri State secured the team title with 29 points, led by a standout team performance. Madilyn Moore paced the Bears with a third-place finish in 17:58.60, followed closely by Ella Rew in fourth (18:02.88) and Amy Gotfredson in fifth (18:08.20). Elsa Henry added a top-10 showing in ninth (18:18.75), while Addysen Clark rounded out the scoring in 12th (18:28.54).
- Competition on Friday will feature both collegiate and high school races. The men's university/college 8,000-meter race begins at 8:00 a.m., followed by the women's university/college 5,000-meter race at 8:45 a.m. High school boys will race at 10:00 a.m., with the high school girls' 5,000 meters closing the event at 10:30 a.m.
- Missouri State will line up against several local programs, including Drury, Evangel, Southwest Baptist, and College of the Ozarks. Admission and parking are free for all fans. There will be plenty of parking available, in case of overflow, extra parking will be available at Allison Sports Town. Spectators are asked to stay off greens and tee boxes.
