Martin Lands International Standout Cheesman

May 01, 2025

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men's basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin has added Australian guard Ryder Cheesman to his growing list of roster additions for next season.

The 6-foot-4 prospect was named one of the breakout stars at the 2025 U20 Australian National Championship, serving as the captain of the Victoria Navy squad while averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the tournament. In that event, the standout point guard shot 46.7 percent from the field for the championship team.

"Ryder Cheesman brings a relentless work ethic, international experience, and a mature leadership presence to Missouri State," said Martin. "He's a competitor with a team-first mindset. He sets the tone daily with how he prepares, how he leads, and how he approaches the game."

Cheesman has competed internationally in multiple basketball events since 2022, most-recently representing his home country at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in 2024. He also has earned gold medals at both the U16 Asian Championship (2023) and U15 Oceana Championship (2022), scoring 10.7 and 11.8 points per game, respectively, in those endeavors. He has also played for the Knox Raiders, an Australian semi-professional club in the NBL1 South league, where is averaging 2.0 points per game as an 18-year-old rookie.
