The Lady Bear Necessities
  • Missouri State women's basketball continues its key four-game road swing with a Thursday night (6:00 p.m.) contest at Murray State. MoState leads the all-time series against the Racers, 7-2, which includes a 2-1 record on the road in Murray. The Lady Bears have won the last two meetings.
  • Lacy Stokes (Sr., Mount Vernon, Mo.) was named MVC Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead MoState to two overtime road victories at UNI and Drake. The senior averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. She led the league in assists last week, and with a 20-point performance at Drake she surpassed 2,000 career points. She tops the MVC and ranks 23rd in the nation in steals (70) this season.
  • Lainie Douglas (Fr., Overland Park, Kan.) was named MVC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season on Monday. In two road wins last week, Douglas averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting .529 (9-17) from the field. According to HerHoopStats.com, she is one of just seven freshmen in NCAA Division I shooting at least 56% from the field (min. 100 FGA).
  • The duo of Sarah Linthacum (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo.) and Douglas in the post is shooting a combined .545 (220-404) from the field this season. Linthacum's .530 field goal percentage ranks 45th nationally with a minimum of 5 FGM/game.
  • Spectacular Sophomores - Sophomores Kaemyn Bekemeier (11.0 ppg) and Kyrah Daniels (11.8 ppg) are two of four Lady Bears averaging double-figure points this season, and they rank first and third on the team in rebounding with 160 and 138 boards, respectively. Bekemeier leads the team in FT% (.797) and is 3rd in 3FG% (.365), while Daniels leads the team in 3FGM (52) and 2nd in BLK (21).
  • Paige Rocca (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa) ranks 4th in program history with 103 career wins, trailing only Brice Calip (122), Sydney Wilson (119) and Melody Howard (104).
  • A couple of keys to success for Missouri State this season have been:
    • Getting off to a quick start: 19-1 when leading at the half and are 2-4 when trailing at the break.
    • Bench production: 17-1 this season when leading in bench scoring.
    • Balanced offense: 14-1 this season when four or more players score in double figures.
  • Missouri State ranks 41st nationally in bench points per game with 23.9. The duo of Bekemeier and Douglas has accounted for 76.9 percent (495 out of 644) of MoState's bench points this season.
  • In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 44-4 when scoring 70+ points, 47-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 35-0 when opponents score less than 60 points.
The Series
Missouri State leads the all-time series 7-2 against Murray State, including a 2-1 record on the road at Murray.
In this year's earlier meeting in Springfield, Lacy Stokes and Kaemyn Bekemeier helped lead the Lady Bears over the Racers, 85-78. Murray State grabbed the lead in the third quarter, but a 9-0 run for MoState gave the Lady Bears the lead for the remainder of the game. Stokes poured in 28 points, her best mark in a Missouri State uniform, while Bekemeier posted a career-high 20 points off the bench.
Last season when the squads met in Murray, Missouri State put together a second-half comeback to emerge victorious, 84-74. After trailing by 13 points at the half, the Lady Bears flipped the script and led by eight entering the fourth quarter. Stokes led the way with 16 points and five assists, followed by Kyrah Daniels with 14 points.
