ST. LOUIS – Missouri State women's basketball racked up two Missouri Valley Conference weekly awards with guard
Lacy Stokes earning Player of the Week and forward
Lainie Douglas being named Freshman of the Week, the league announced today (Feb. 24).
MoState went 2-0 on the week with overtime wins on the road at Northern Iowa and Drake to remain atop the MVC standings.
Stokes collects her first weekly award of the season after averaging 20.5 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game across the two victories. She also shot 52 percent (12-23) from the field, 60 percent (3-5) from three and 82 percent (14-17) from the charity stripe. Her 14 assists ranked first in The Valley last week.
In Thursday night's win at UNI, the Mount Vernon, Mo., native posted 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds. She followed that up on Saturday with her third consecutive 20-point performance as she poured in 20 points and dished out seven assists in the win at Drake. Stokes was the game's leading scorer in the overtime period with six points (1-1 FG, 4-4 FT).
With 20 points against Drake, Stokes also surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her collegiate career.
Douglas racks up her fourth freshman of the week award this season after averaging 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game across the two wins. She also shot .529 (9-17) from the field and went 2-for-2 at the free throw line.
In the Thursday night victory at UNI, the Overland Park, Kan., native scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. On Saturday afternoon at Drake, Douglas added 12 points in 18 minutes along with six boards. The freshman was one of five Lady Bears to average double-figure points last week.
According to HerHoopStats.com, following last weekend's games, Douglas is one of just seven freshmen in NCAA Division I currently shooting at least 56 percent from the field (min. 100 FGA).
Missouri State hits the road again this week for two more key MVC matchups, beginning with a trip to Murray State on Thursday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m.
