CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri State cross country team won the Redhawks Invitational hosted by SEMO with a final score of 39 points on Friday night.
 
Mary Margaret Harris was the first Bear across the line with fourth place finish and a time of 18:50.84, one minute behind the leader. Riley Bryan was close behind her with a time of 18:55.85 in sixth place, immediately followed by Ella Cronhardt with a time of 18:59.04. Tabitha Fox came in ninth with a time of 19:02.27 and Emily Nuttall rounded out the score for the Bears with a time of 19:07.50 and a 13^th place finish.
 
At the first kilometer marker, the Bears were in second place with a projected score of 45 points, but by the time they reached the third kilometer marker, they were firmly in first place. MoState did not let off the gas for the last two kilometers and secured the first-place finish with a winning margin of 15 points.
 
The other two MVC schools competing, Murray State and Southern Illinois, finished second and third with 45 and 69 points, respectively. Host SEMO finished fourth with 85.
 
"This was the race we were hoping for," head coach Jordan Fife said. "We wanted to race smart and under control the first half of the race because of the heat and see what we had left the second half. They executed the race plan to perfection. It's a great day to be a Bear!"
 
Missouri State will co-host the Queen City Twilight Classic with Drury and Evangel on Friday, Sept. 13 at Allison Sports Town in Springfield.
