Women's Soccer Opens Season with 2-0 Loss
August 15, 2024 | Women's Soccer
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri State women's soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 loss to Missouri on Thursday.
The Bears (0-1) fired off 11 shots with four on-goal in 90 minutes of play, but the Tigers (1-0) were able to outpace them with 15 shots and six on goal. Forward/midfielder Reilly Heman led the Bears in shooting with three shots in 54 minutes.
Goalkeeper Camielle Day played the full 90 minutes and recorded four saves. Two goals allowed in one game was the most Day has had since the Bears and Tigers faced off last season (Sept. 10).
Missouri's first goal came early in the match with Milena Fischer scoring in the eighth minute. The Tigers' Keegan Good scored the insurance goal in the 54th minute.
"Very tough loss against a quality side. We started off slower than we wanted, battling some first game nerves and playing a little frantic," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "However, we made some adjustments leading into the second half and got things going, playing our style. Awesome to see how well we defended and created multiple scoring chances, plus multiple players stepped up tonight. Excited for our home opener on Sunday!
MoState opens its home slate of games on Sunday, Aug. 18 with a 4:00 p.m. matchup against Tulsa.
