The Lady Bear Necessities
  • Missouri State women's basketball heads to Southeast Missouri State for a Monday morning (11 a.m.) matchup on the Redhawks' Classroom on the Court Day. MSU is 13-2 all-time against SEMO, including a 4-2 record on the road. Monday's contest marks the Lady Bears' first trip to Cape Girardeau since Dec. 21, 2012. MSU is 1-1 against OVC teams this season.
  • Missouri State sits just one win away from achieving 1,000 program victories. The Lady Bears are in their 56th season of women's collegiate basketball and own an all-time record of 999-642 (.609). A victory on Monday would also mark Beth Cunningham's 50th win at the helm of the Lady Bears program.
  • The Lady Bears are coming off back-to-back wins in which they held Wyoming and Little Rock to 50 points or less. MSU improved to 3-0 at home and the Lady Bears are 4-0 when playing in the state of Missouri this season.
  • Transfer Sarah Linthacum (Sr. Jefferson City, Mo.) has made an immediate impact in the Lady Bears' starting lineup. She has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, leads MoState with 5.6 rebounds per game and is shooting 51% (45-88) from the field. She ranks 4th in the MVC in offensive rebounds per game (2.9) and 7th in field goal percentage.
  • Lacy Stokes (Sr., Mount Vernon, Mo.) continues to lead the way for Missouri State from the point guard position, averaging 12.1 points/game while dishing out 38 assists and collecting 23 steals on the year so far. She ranks 2nd in The Valley in steals/game (2.6) and minutes/game (35.1). The 5'4" senior has also led Missouri State in rebounding four times this season.
  • MoState ranks 19th nationally in three-point field goal percentage this season, shooting at a .385 (60-156) clip from beyond the arc. Three Lady Bears have at least 10 3FG - Daniels (18), Rocca (15) and Bekemeier (13). Bekemeier paces the team with a .520 (13-25) three-point percentage.
  • Missouri State has been incredibly balanced on offense this season as three players are averaging at least 10.0 points/game, while two others are right on the cusp of achieving that mark. Five different Lady Bears have led the team in scoring and eight players have recorded at least one game with 10+ points.
  • In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 29-4 when scoring 70+ points, 35-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 26-0 when opponents score less than 60 points.
  • Missouri State was picked to finish fifth in the MVC preseason poll for the second consecutive year. MSU finished third in the regular season a year ago with a 15-5 conference record. Stokes earned a spot on the preseason All-MVC first team after earning second-team honors a year ago, in addition to being named to the MVC All-Newcomer and All-Defensive teams.
The Series
Monday will mark the 16th meeting between Missouri State and SEMO. Missouri State leads the all-time series, 13-2, which includes a 4-2 record on the road. MSU has won the last four meetings between the squads.
Last season, the Lady Bears and Redhawks renewed their in-state rivalry for the first time in 10 seasons. Missouri State secured a 74-66 victory in Springfield, using a crucial third-quarter performance to take down SEMO. After leading by two points at halftime, the Lady Bears outscored the Redhawks 21-9 in the third quarter and eventually held on late for the eight-point win. Angel Scott turned in a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the four Lady Bears in double figures.
MSU's last trip to Cape Girardeau was on Dec. 21, 2012 as the Lady Bears came away with a 69-55 victory. The Lady Bears outscored the Redhawks 29-9 in the game's final 9:25 and they outrebounded SEMO by a 62-35 margin to secure the victory. Christiana Shorter and Whitney Edie combined for 36 points and 22 rebounds to pace the Lady Bears.
