The Lady Bear NecessitiesÂ
- Missouri State women's basketball opens the 2024-25 regular season on Sunday afternoon (2:00 p.m.) as the Lady Bears welcome Tulsa to Great Southern Bank Arena. The Lady Bears are 1-1 in season openers under head coach Beth Cunningham.
- The Lady Bears lead the all-time series against Tulsa, 8-7, including a 7-2 record against the Golden Hurricane in Springfield. The two squads are facing off for the first time since March 20, 2015 when they met in the postseason WNIT.Â
- MoState is coming off a 23-10 season that saw the Lady Bears make a run to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title game and earn a bid into the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament. Last season marked the program's seventh consecutive 20-win season and ninth straight postseason appearance.Â
- This year's Lady Bear roster features six returners, including three starters, from a year ago. The group is headlined by reigning MVC Newcomer of the Year Lacy Stokes (Sr., Mount Vernon, Mo.). Stokes averaged 12.0 points/game, recorded 153 assists and collected 85 steals in 2023-24, all team-leading marks. Overall, Missouri State returns 52% of its scoring from last year.
- Eight newcomers round out the Missouri State roster, a group that consists of two freshmen and six transfers from four-year institutions.Â
- Missouri State was picked to finish fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll for the second consecutive year. MSU finished third in the regular season a year ago with a 15-5 conference record. Stokes earned a spot on the preseason All-MVC first team after earning second-team honors a year ago, in addition to being named to the MVC All-Newcomer and All-Defensive teams.Â
- Beth Cunningham begins her third season at the helm of the Lady Bears' program, owning a 43-22 record over her first two seasons, including a 25-5 record at Great Southern Bank Arena. In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 27-4 when scoring 70+ points and 31-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less.Â
- In Missouri State's lone exhibition against Missouri S&T on Monday, the Lady Bears cruised to a 76-30 victory in their final tune up for the regular season. Transfers Sarah Linthacum (Sr., Jefferson City, Mo.) and Cady Pauley (Jr., Milan, Mo.) paced MoState offensively. Linthacum was an effiecient 6-for-7 from the field with a game-leading 13 points, while Pauley shot 50% from the field (2-for-2 3FG) with 12 points.Â
- Following the season opener, the Lady Bears will hit the road for six straight games.Â
    Missouri State leads the all-time series against Tulsa, 8-7, including a 7-2 record in Springfield. Sunday's meeting marks the first matchup between the two teams since the 2014-15 season.Â
   The most recent matchup between the squads took place on March 20, 2015 as part of the postseason WNIT. The Lady Bears fell to the Golden Hurricane by a score of 72-78 to end their season. Missouri State led by two late in the game, but a 7-0 run by Tulsa in the final few minutes was the difference-maker.
