
Stokes Racks Up Fifth Valley Newcomer Award

ST. LOUIS – Lacy Stokes of Missouri State women's basketball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fifth time this season, the league announced today (Jan. 30).

In a road weekend split at Belmont and Murray State, Stokes averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.

On Friday night at Belmont, Stokes scored five points and secured game-highs with seven assists and three steals. In Sunday's win at Murray State, she posted her 10th double-figure scoring game of the season with a team-high 16 points. She also dished out five assists, collected three steals and grabbed five rebounds against the Racers. In a crucial third quarter that propelled Missouri State to a come-from-behind victory, Stokes went 2-for-2 from behind the arc, tallied three assists with no turnovers and recorded two steals. Then, in the fourth quarter, she went 4-for-4 at the line to help ice the game for MSU.

Stokes has recorded at least four assists in every MVC game this season and owns eight games with fewer than two turnovers this season. She ranks 17th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio, 55th in assists per game and 81st in total assists.

This marks her fifth MVC Newcomer of the Week award this season. Her other four honors came on Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Dec. 27 and Jan. 9.

Missouri State is on the road this week as the Lady Bears head to Southern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 4 p.m. tipoff. The Lady Bears return home next week against Belmont (Feb. 9) and Murray State (Feb. 11).
