
Tennis Bears Fall to South Dakota, 4-3

URBANDALE, Iowa – The Missouri State tennis team lost its second match of the season Sunday, 4-3, in a neutral-site match against South Dakota in Iowa. Â

The Bears saw their first individual victories of the spring in the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles matches.Â

At No. 1, Cristina Flaquer recorded her first spring singles win as a Bear with her win over South Dakota's Amanda de Oliveira. Flaquer stormed through the first set to win 6-0. In the second set, the senior kept her foot on the gas to win 6-3 and give the Bears their first point of the match.Â

After dropping the No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches, Sandra Lukacova got the Bears back on track with her win at No. 6 over Hitakamya Narwal from South Dakota. Lukacova defeated Narwal in straight sets, winning both 6-4.Â

With a win at No. 2, Mary Houston tied the match at 3-3 for the Bears. After dropping the first set 6-4, Houston fought back to take the second set 6-0. Her momentum in the second carried her into the third where she won 6-1 to take the match.Â

South Dakota picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the critical doubles point.

The Bears will play their home opener against Arkansas State at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26 at Cooper Tennis Complex.  Admission is free.
