Townsend Earns MVC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

ST. LOUIS - Senior goalkeeper Harry Townsend was named the first Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week of the 2023 season, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Townsend earned the honor thanks to his lockdown performance in Missouri State's 1-0 win over No. 14 Maryland last Thursday. The senior out of Cornwall, England played all 90 minutes and made a brilliant save on Maryland's lone shot on goal in the opening minutes. He also made strong moves outside the 18-yard box to prevent the Terrapins from attacking any further. Maryland attempted just one more shot following Townsend's save.
After tying for the most shutouts in the nation last season with 12 and only allowing 11 goals in 2022, Townsend picked up right where he left off to earn his 15th career shutout.
The honor marks Townsend's third career MVC Defensive Player of the Week award. He earned his first two honors in September and October of last season.
