Women's Soccer Shuts Out Oregon in Home Tie
August 27, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State women's soccer team battled to its first draw of the season here Sunday against visiting Oregon, going the distance in a 0-0 tie.
It marked the third shutout in four games for starting goal keeper Camielle Day who was nothing short of amazing in helping turn back eight Oregon shots on goal and pushing the Bears (3-0-1) to their best start since 2001.
Missouri State out-shot Oregon (0-2-1) by a narrow 13-12 margin in a great back-and-forth match. The Bears put nine shots on goal, including three by Ana Paula Fraiz and two apiece from Iraia Arrue, Hailey Palmer and Julia Kristensen.
"We are excited that we got a chance and a rare opportunity to play a team from the Pac-12," said head coach Kirk Nelson. "Both teams battled to the final whistle."
The last time MSU was 3-0-1 was during the 2001 season, which did not include any matches against Big12 or Pac-12 opponents.
"This was a huge shoutout to our team defense for getting the clean sheet," said Nelson. "Now it is time to get ready for the second half of non-conference play."
The Bears are back at home on Thursday to face Oral Roberts at 6:00 p.m. at Better and Bobby Allison South Stadium. Admission is free.
