DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Missouri State's cheer squad will compete in the College Nationals here this week, sponsored by the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA).

Missouri State will be facing a competitive field in the Division I Small Coed Intermediate division prelims beginning Thursday afternoon with the top-scoring teams advancing to Friday's finals.

"I am personally excited for the NCA national competition," said MoState cheer coach Will Thomas. "Our routine highlights the team's strengths in the areas of partner and group stunts, pyramids, baskets, tumbling, jumps, and dance. The flow and excitement of the routine is what makes these athletes stand out and showcases their amazing athleticism with a variety of skills."

Missouri State earned a bid to this year's NCA Nationals after a successful summer cheer camp that demonstrated growth and execution of specific skills. The team's routine is two minutes, 15 seconds and will be streamed with the competition coverage on TV.Varsity.com.

Missouri State has a strong history of success at national events, finishing second at the UCA Nationals in 2020 and finishing first during a virtual national competition during the pandemic year of 2021. This is the team's first trip to the NCA event.

NCA is the world's original cheer company and was founding in 1948. This year marks the company's 75th year of representing and recognizing cheerleaders with over 300 teams competing at this year's event. The competition was featured on the Netflix documentary "Cheer."
