February 25, 2023 | Women's Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. – The Missouri State women's tennis team (4-5) fell to Arkansas and No. 18 Oklahoma in a pair of afternoon duals here Saturday. First, the Razorbacks (6-3) defeated the Bears, 4-0, followed by a Sooners (8-5) victory over MSU, 5-0.
"We had two hard matches today, but I think the girls played incredibly well," head coach Ellie Burger said. "I'm so proud of how they embraced the opportunity to play the power-five teams. They took a lot away from today, and we're going to use it going into the remainder of our season."
Over the course of both duals, Missouri State players faced four opponents ranked inside the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings top 100, including three doubles teams and one singles player.
Headlining the Bears against Arkansas, the team of Diana Cabrera and Alyson Piskulic were knotted up at 4-4 at No. 2 doubles with ARK's Grace O'Donnell and Lenka Stara before the match was suspended due to the point being clinched. In singles, Cabrera showed fight in the No. 1 slot, as her match ended early right after ARK's Kelly Keller took a tightly-contested first set, 7-6 (7-3).
Versus Oklahoma, Cabrera and Piskulic took two sets off the No. 12 ranked doubles team in the country in the No. 2 position. When the match was suspended, OU's Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva held a 5-2 advantage over the MSU duo.
