The Lady Bear Necessities
  • Missouri State women's basketball (6-3) continues its six-game home stand and opens Missouri Valley Conference action as the Lady Bears welcome UNI for a Saturday afternoon (1 p.m.) showdown in the two teams' only meeting this season. MSU leads the all-time series against UNI, 60-31, including a 34-8 record in Springfield.
  • MSU is currently riding a seven-game home win streak dating back to last season with the Lady Bears' last home loss coming on Feb. 19, 2023 against Belmont. The Lady Bears are 16-4 at home in the Beth Cunningham era, and have won 13 of their last 14 games at Great Southern Bank Arena.
  • In last week's Lady Bear Classic, Missouri State collected victories over BYU (56-55) and Western Kentucky (69-68) to go undefeated in the tournament. MSU's win over BYU marked the 11th consecutive season the Lady Bears have defeated a Power Five opponent, recording 19 such wins over that span.
  • Lacy Stokes (Jr., Mount Vernon, Mo.) was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week for the third this season and for the second consecutive week for her performance in the Lady Bear Classic. Stokes averaged 14.5 points per game, while leading the Lady Bears with six assists, four steals and nine free throws made across the two-game span.
  • In the Beth Cunningham era, the Lady Bears are 17-1 when scoring 70+ points. Under Cunningham, Missouri State is 19-0 when allowing 65 points or less and 25-3 when holding opponents to 70 points or less.
  • Missouri State ranks inside the Top 100 nationally in free throw attempts per game (35th - 21.2), free throws made per game (76th - 13.8) and rebound margin (97th - 4.8).
  • The Lady Bears were picked 5th in this year's MVC Preseason Poll. MSU has won 12 or more MVC games in eight consecutive years and has posted 22 top-three finishes in 31 league seasons. Missouri State is 393-163 all-time in MVC play.
  • MSU has won the rebounding battle 134 times in the last 165 contests, going 114-20 when winning on the glass. The Lady Bears have also out-rebounded 82 of their last 97 MVC opponents.
  • Missouri State's junior class (Green, Scott, Stokes, Taylor) is accounting for 61% of the Lady Bears' scoring this season. The combination of two returners and two transfers has scored 351 of MSU's 574 points on the year.
The Series
Missouri State leads the all-time series against Northern Iowa, 60-31, including a 34-8 record in Springfield. MSU and UNI split the two-game series last season with both teams winning at home. Missouri State earned a 71-67 win at Great Southern Bank Arena before UNI collected an 86-67 win in the final game of the 2022-23 regular season.
The two squads face off just once in the regular season this year in the 20-game Missouri Valley Conference schedule. The Lady Bears and Panthers have alternated victories in the last six matchups, but Missouri State has won the last five contests held in Springfield.
