Red Wolves Score Late, Defeat Missouri State 1-0
September 08, 2022 | Women's Soccer
JONESBORO, Ark. – A 73rd minute Arkansas State goal put the Red Wolves up 1-0 over Missouri State women's soccer and halted the Bears chance at back-to-back road victories, as MoState dropped the match Thursday afternoon in Jonesboro.
MoState (2-4-1) got a spark early, attempting four corners within the first 30 minutes of the match. Despite the opportunities, the Bears weren't able to find the back of the net.
With both teams exchanging punches throughout the first half, neither the Bears nor Red Wolves were able to land one, and both teams headed into the locker room looking to break the tie.
During the second half, the early momentum shifted in the Red Wolves' favor. ASU (2-2-2) eventually capitalized late when a Red Wolves goal proved to be enough to determine the match.
The offense was spread evenly throughout Missouri State, as four different Bears had two shots apiece.
Sophomore midfielder Kaeli Benedict, sophomore forward Grace O'Keefe, freshman forward Joey Fosnow and freshman midfielder Hailey Chambliss all accounted for two shots apiece, with Fosnow registering a shot on goal for MoState alongside sophomore defender Brynna Rutherford.
The Bears return home Sunday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. to face Kansas City at Allison South Stadium.
