STILLWATER, Okla. - Missouri State women's soccer came up short in Stillwater on Sunday, falling to Oklahoma State, 4-0. While the Bears had their opportunities, Oklahoma State remained in control throughout the match, registering 25 shots with nine on goal. Twenty-six different Bears took the pitch in Sunday's match, and only two players, sophomore forward Grace O'Keefe and senior defender/midfielder Kyli Jackson, played for more than 70 minutes. Offensively, senior defender Maddie Augustine led the way for MSU, registering two shots while putting one on goal. Augustine's shot on goal came minutes before halftime, resulting in a point-blank save by the OSU goalkeeper.
Though the Bears were unable to emerge victorious in the match, MSU head coach Kirk Nelson believes the outcome of the game does not tell the full tale. "Our team battled all the way to the end," Nelson said. "The score line didn't match the level of our play especially in the first half. Facing these tough opponents in early part of season will help us as we move forward. We are excited to get back home and get ready for a three-game home set." The Bears will begin a three-game home stretch on Thursday at 2 p.m., battling fellow in-state foe SEMO.
