Golfers Set to Open Spring Season in Florida

February 04, 2022

The Missouri State men's golf team will open its 2022 spring campaign Sunday thru Tuesday (Feb. 6-8) at the Veterans Intercollegiate in suburban Orlando, Fla. The Bears were set to depart snowy Missouri for the sunny south on Friday (Feb. 4), play a practice round Saturday, then compete 18 holes each tournament day at Orange County National in Winter Garden.

The 10-team field also includes host Bucknell, Bryant, Chicago State, Holy Cross, Siena, Stetson, South Florida, North Florida and the Veterans Golf Association. Play is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, with all players off no. 1 at Orange County's Crooked Cat Course.

MSU is led by senior Alex Locke and junior Max Kreikemeier, who finished 1-2 on the team in scoring average in the fall at 73.60 and 73.87, respectively. Both qualified for last summer's U.S, Amateur and Kreikemeier advanced to match play. He is the Bears' only returning all-conference performer, while Locke is a graduate transfer from Maryville University.

The rest of the Bear lineup will include juniors JP Lavalle and Austin Gillund, and sophomore Eric Schuessler. Lavalle and Schuessler averaged 76.20 and 76.58, respectively, in the fall, while Gillund posted an 81.00 mark.
