The Ten Count
  • Missouri State wraps a two-game Valley home stand Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Bears host Indiana State (ESPN+) at JQH Arena. The Bears, who have won 4 of their last 5 games, look to avenge their Jan. 25 loss in Terre Haute while gunning for their 20th win of the year. MSU starts the week tied for 2nd in the MVC standings, a half-game behind Loyola.
  • A MoState win would solidify a 20-win season for coach Dana Ford's Bears, which would be the program's first since 2013-14. Missouri State has had 29 previous twenty-win teams (16 in the Division I era). All 16 previous DI 20-win teams have gone on to play in a postseason tournament -- 6 NCAA, 8 NIT, 2 CIT.
  • Isiaih Mosley (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) scored a game-high 22 points in Saturday's win over Valpo, his 16th 20-point game this season and 31st of his career. He continues to lead The Valley in scoring (20.5 ppg), while his 311 points in MVC games (22.2 ppg) also leads the league and is the fifth-best conference-only scoring total in Bears history.
  • Gaige Prim (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) has scored in double figures in 11 straight games and is averaging 16.2 points and a team-best 6.8 rebounds per game in that span while shooting 56.7 percent from the field. The Bears are also 8-3 in that span. The All-MVC first-teamer leads the MVC in double-doubles (9) and field goal percentage (.582), while ranking second in the league in total rebounds (210) and rebounds per game (7.8).
  • Under coach Dana Ford, the Bears have now reeled off 4 straight Valley seasons with a .500 or better record. Missouri State last did so in a six-year stretch from 2001-02 to 2006-07, some 15 years ago. The Bears have reached 10 or more Valley wins in three of Ford's four seasons in Springfield.
  • Isiaih Mosley (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) enters the week ranked 12th in the country in scoring (20.5 ppg), but has the second-most field goals (199) and total points (553) in the country. Mosley also ranks 3rd nationally in free throw percentage (.926) with 32 straight makes, which matches the fifth-best FT streak in school history.
  • In 5 lifetime games against the Sycamores, Isiaih Mosley is averaging 18.6 points per game, while Gaige Prim is scoring 17.4 per game against Indiana State with 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
  • The Bears are one of three NCAA teams, along with Syracuse and ETSU, to boast three players with 50 or more 3-pointers this season. Led by Ja'Monta Black (67), Jaylen Minnett (59) and Isiaih Mosley (55), the Bears rank 12th in the country in 3-point FG percentage (.384) and 24th in total threes (236).
  • The Bears start the week ranked 5th in the country in FT percentage (.794), 12th in 3-point FG percentage (.384), 16th in FG percentage (.484) and 47th in scoring offense (77.3), all of which lead the MVC. The Bears and Davidson are the only teams in the nation to rank in the top 20 nationally in all three shooting categories.
  • Jaylen Minnett (Sr., Terre Haute, Ind.) has scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 4-8. He posted 12.5 points per game in Bears wins over Drake (10) and Valpo (15) this week with 7 total threes.
  • MSU is 18-1 this season and 59-10 under coach Dana Ford when the Bears shoot a higher FG percentage than their opponent. MoState is also 35-3 under Ford when they shoot 50 percent or better with 12 fifty-percent games this season.
  • Donovan Clay (Jr., Alton, Ill.) snagged a game-high 11 rebounds in Saturday's win over Valpo, giving him a career-high 170 rebounds for the season (6.3 rpg). He is averaging 9.0 caroms per game over the last 3 home contests.

Coach Dana Ford
  • Dana Ford (Illinois State, 2006) is 68-48 (.586) in his fourth season as Missouri State head coach, including a 41-16 ledger at JQH Arena, 22-24 record in away games, and 5-8 mark at neutral sites. He is now 125-113 (.525) in his eighth season as a head coach, including four seasons at Tennessee State. Ford is 41-27 in Valley games (21-13 at home, 20-14 away) and is 6-2 all-time against Indiana State.
  • CollegeInsider.com recently named Ford one of the dozen "Coaching Names to Remember" for the 2021-22 season.
  • Ford picked up his 100th career victory on Feb. 7, 2021 at Illinois State (72-62). The Dec. 15, 2021 win over South Dakota State was Ford's 100th as Bears head coach.
  • Last season, Ford was named to ESPN's College Basketball 40 Under 40 list at No. 35 and was on the list of national finalists for both the Skip Prosser Award and Ben Jobe Award. The Bears completed the 2020-21 campaign with a 17-7 overall record and 12-6 ledger in the Missouri Valley Conference (third) before advancing to the MVC Tournament semifinals. Missouri State was 7-2 in road conference games to match a program high-water mark, while Isiaih Mosley and Gaige Prim earned All-MVC first team honors, and Demarcus Sharp earned a spot on the MVC All-Newcomer Team.
  • He was introduced as Missouri State's 18th men's basketball coach on March 22, 2018 after coaching the previous four seasons at Tennessee State. The native of Tamms, Illinois was 57-65 (.467) at Tennessee State, including a 52-39 ledger in his last three seasons in Nashville. He coached five All-OVC players and two OVC All-Newcomer Team selections during his tenure at TSU. Under his leadership, TSU doubled its home attendance average and twice earned votes in the AP Top 25 poll in 2016-17.
  • Ford, 37, earned the Ben Jobe Award in 2016 as the nation's top Division I minority coach. That same year, he was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and NABC District 19 Coach of the Year after engineering one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history, swaying Tennessee State from a 5-26 record in his first season to a 20-11 mark in 2015-16.
  • He has served as an assistant at Tennessee State, Wichita State and Illinois State and was responsible for recruiting future NBA talents such as Robert Covington (Trail Blazers) and Fred Van Vleet (Raptors).
Series History
  • The Bears lead the all-time series against Indiana State, 51-27, in a rivalry that dates back to 1951-52. Missouri State is 33-6 in Springfield (11-3 at JQH Arena), 16-20 in Terre Haute, and 2-1 in St. Louis vs. ISU.
  • The Bears have won 11 of the last 13 meetings, dating back to 2016, including a two-game sweep in 2020-21 in Springfield. However, the Sycamores snapped a four-game losing streak against MSU in the most-recent meeting on Jan. 25, 2022 in Terre Haute.
  • In that game, Indiana State dropped in 11 first-half 3-pointers and 14 for the game en route to a 76-72 win. Isiaih Mosley led Missouri State with 25 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth career double-double and first this season. Gaige Prim added 15 points. Indiana State got 16 points from Cameron Henry and 15 from Zach Hobbs.
  • The Bears fell behind 41-29 at the half and by as many as 17 in the second half before pouring it on late in the game to get within 74-72 after a 3-pointer by Ja'Monta Black with 44 seconds to go. After Black's long bomb, the Bears got a defensive stop with Lu'Cye Patterson snagging a critical defensive rebound. The Bears fed the ball to Mosley who drove to the bucket but couldn't convert the potential game-tying bucket, and ISU added two more free throws from there to seal the upset. | Stats
