Starting Five - Storylines for the Toledo Game
1) So far this season, Missouri State is hanging its hat on rebounding and its three-point percentage defense. The Lady Bears are 1st in the Missouri Valley Conference in offensive rebounds per game (16.2) Â and three-point percentage defense (.264), which also respectively rank 17th and 72nd nationally. MSU's +7.0 rebounding margin is 71st in the country, while its rebounding offense (40.8), defense (33.8) and margin rank third in The Valley.Â
2) MSU's trip to Toledo is its first true road contest of the season. The Lady Bears are 41-8 in their last 49 true road games. Missouri State has only made one trip to Toledo in the series history, with that matchup occurring on Nov. 20, 2010 as MSU defeated UT, 73-69.Â
3) Missouri State has not lost back-to-back games in a season since 2018-19. The last time MSU suffered consecutive losses in a season was when the Lady Bears lost five in a row from Nov. 24-Dec. 16, 2018. MSU suffered a loss to Middle Tennessee in its last outing, so the Lady Bears will look to follow it up with a win at Toledo and keep the trend alive.
4) Fifth-year senior Sydney WIlson continues to move her way up the career victories list at MSU. With two wins so far this season, Wilson now has 101 for her Lady Bear career which is tied for fourth in program history alongside Jackie Stiles (1998-01). Next on the list is Tina Robbins (1991-94), who sits in third place with 102 career wins.
5) Point guard and fifth-year senior
Aniya Thomas ranks 1st in the Missouri Valley Conference and 58th nationally with 4.8 assists per game. She has dished out 24 assists in five games this season and set a career high with 9 assists (to just one turnover) against UTSA on Nov. 25.Â
