The Ten Count
  • Riding a league-best four-game winning streak, Missouri State wraps a two-game road swing on Tuesday at Indiana State (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+). The Bears are coming off their first win over a ranked opponent in more than 10 years with Saturday's 79-69 win at No. 22 Loyola to move into a share of first place with the Ramblers. MSU, which has won 11 of its last 13 games overall, moved up to No. 49 in the KenPom.com team rankings.
  • The Bears are 11-1 in their last dozen meetings against the Sycamores, including four straight wins at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute. MSU is averaging 75.8 points per game against Indiana State over the last 12 meetings.
  • Isiaih Mosley (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) continues to post jaw-dropping offensive numbers, racking up 172 points over his last 5 games (34.4 ppg), while shooting 62.5 percent from the field (60-of-96), 46.9 percent from three (15-for-32) and 88.1 percent at the free throw line (37-of-42) with 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in that span. He ranks 1st in the nation in total points (444) and field goals (162), while ranking 9th in scoring average (21.1) and 17th in FT% (.901).
  • Jaylen Minnett (Sr., Terre Haute, Ind.) makes a return to his hometown Tuesday to play his first-ever game at the Hulman Center. The South Vigo High School product averaged 25.8 points and 2.9 assists per game for a 19-7 club his senior year (2016-17) and finished as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,782 career points. He went on to play four seasons at IUPUI (1,403 points in 111 games), but has never played against Indiana State in his college career.
  • Mosley is the first MVC player to score 40 points twice in a season since Bradley's Hersey Hawkins (1987-88). In his career, he has scored in double figures in 51-of-77 career games, including 28 games with 20 or more points. With his 40-point outing at Loyola on Saturday, he moved up to 17th on the program's career scoring chart (1,186). He also has eclipsed 20 points in a half 10 times in his career, including 4 times this season (22 in second half at Loyola).
  • Gaige Prim (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) is coming off his 8th double-double of the season, his second in a row, and the 26th of his career with 11 points and 10 rebounds at No. 22 Loyola. He ranks 16th nationally in double-doubles, 22nd in total rebounds (173) and 35th in FG% (.563), all of which lead the Missouri Valley Conference.
  • The Bears are 6-1 this month, the club's most January victories since going 8-2 en route to the MVC title in 2010-11.
  • The Bears rank 13th nationally in FG% (.492), 5th in 3-pt FG% (.401) and 7th in FT% (.792), while ranking 33rd in scoring offense (79.1). KenPom also rates the Bears offense 12th in effective FG% (.562) and 21st in efficiency (114.7). MoState ranks 28th in turnovers per game (10.8) and 27th in turnover percentage (15.7).
  • Missouri State is one of two teams in the country (Davidson) to boast three players with 40 or more 3-pointers. With 198 threes, MSU ranks 10th nationally and is gunning for 200+ treys as a team for the fifth time in six seasons.
  • The Bears are 11-2 this season with Lu'Cye Patterson (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) in the starting lineup. He needs 1 rebound to give him 100 in his Missouri State career (44 games) and 2 points to give him 200.
  • Ja'Monta Black (Jr., Columbia, Mo.) has made at least one 3-pointer in 13 straight games and leads the MVC with 57 triples on the season (20th nationally).
  • Donovan Clay (Jr., Alton, Ill.) had 16 points at Loyola, his second-best scoring outing of the season and tops since he scored 20 points vs. SEMO on opening night. He ranks 35th nationally in minutes played (660:45), which leads the MVC.
Coach Dana Ford
  • Dana Ford (Illinois State, 2006) is 64-46 (.581) in his fourth season as Missouri State head coach, including a 39-15 ledger at JQH Arena, 20-23 record in away games, and 5-8 mark at neutral sites. He is now 121-111 (.522) in his eighth season as a head coach, including four seasons at Tennessee State. Ford is 6-1 all-time against Indiana State.
  • Ford picked up his 100th career victory on Feb. 7, 2021 at Illinois State (72-62). The Dec. 15, 2021 win over South Dakota State was Ford's 100th as Bears head coach.
  • Last season, Ford was named to ESPN's College Basketball 40 Under 40 list at No. 35 and was on the list of national finalists for both the Skip Prosser Award and Ben Jobe Award. The Bears completed the 2020-21 campaign with a 17-7 overall record and 12-6 ledger in the Missouri Valley Conference (third) before advancing to the MVC Tournament semifinals. Missouri State was 7-2 in road conference games to match a program high-water mark, while Isiaih Mosley and Gaige Prim earned All-MVC first team honors, and Demarcus Sharp earned a spot on the MVC All-Newcomer Team.
  • He was introduced as Missouri State's 18th men's basketball coach on March 22, 2018 after coaching the previous four seasons at Tennessee State. The native of Tamms, Illinois was 57-65 (.467) at Tennessee State, including a 52-39 ledger in his last three seasons in Nashville. He coached five All-OVC players and two OVC All-Newcomer Team selections during his tenure at TSU. Under his leadership, TSU doubled its home attendance average and twice earned votes in the AP Top 25 poll in 2016-17.
  • Ford, 37, earned the Ben Jobe Award in 2016 as the nation's top Division I minority coach. That same year, he was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and NABC District 19 Coach of the Year after engineering one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history, swaying Tennessee State from a 5-26 record in his first season to a 20-11 mark in 2015-16.
  • He has served as an assistant at Tennessee State, Wichita State and Illinois State and was responsible for recruiting future NBA talents such as Robert Covington (Trail Blazers) and Fred Van Vleet (Raptors).
Series History
  • The Bears lead the all-time series against Indiana State, 51-26, in a rivalry that dates back to 1951-52. Missouri State is 33-6 in Springfield (11-3 at JQH Arena), 16-19 in Terre Haute, and 2-1 in St. Louis at the MVC Tournament (including the 2011 championship game) against Indiana State.
  • The Bears have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the clubs, dating back to 2016, including a two-game sweep in 2020-21 in Springfield.
  • In the first meeting a year ago (1/2/21), Gaige Prim posted 22 points and snagged 11 rebounds to help lift Missouri State to an 84-74 win. The Bears shot 58.2 percent from the field and also got 23 points from Isiaih Mosley in the winning cause, his fourth straight 20-point scoring effort. MSU never trailed in the contest and shot 71 percent (22-of-31) in the opening half to lead 50-30 at the midway point. The tandem of Prim and Mosley combined to score all of MSU's points on a key 10-0 run early in the opening period that culminated in a 22-4 lead less than eight minutes into the game. The Bears make 12 of their first 14 shots to start the contest. | Stats
  • The next night (1/3/21), Mosley matched a (then) career high 29 points, including 23 in the second half, to help push MSU to a 70-66 win. It was Mosley's fifth straight 20-point scoring game, the first Bear since 1995 to achieve that milestone. MSU also got 11 points from Keaton Hervey and 10 from Prim who finished in double figures for the 20th game in a row. ISU was led by Randy Miller, Jr., who posted 17 points, while Tyreke Key added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the visitors. The game featured a dozen lead changes, but MSU took the lead back for good with 6:10 to go on a 3-pointer from freshman Lu'Cye Patterson. Patterson was assigned to Key for most of the stretch run for MSU to keep ISU's stalwart in check. He capitalized on an open look from the right side to make his second FG of the game. | Stats
