SPRINGFIELD – Two Missouri State men's soccer players have been named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy watch list, the organization announced Thursday.
Seniors Josh Dolling and Kyle Hiebert were included in the prestigious field of 44 players for the second consecutive year.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual honor that a Division I soccer player can receive, and it has been awarded every year since 1967. Following the regular season, the pool of players will be narrowed to 15 following United Soccer Coaches Division I All-America voting. The finalists will be announced on Nov. 30.
Last season, Hiebert was named a finalist following a standout 2020-21 campaign. Prior to that, former standout Bear Matthew Bentley made the pool of 15 after the 2019 season.
The Dolling and Hiebert 2021 selections come after an impressive 2020-21 campaign where they helped the team to its second consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship. The team's historic season ended with its first-ever trip to the Sweet 16.
Hiebert (La Salle, Manitoba, Canada) earned a spot on the list after starting all 14 games of the abbreviated 2021 spring season. He helped lead the MSU defense to a .781 goals against average and post six shutouts throughout the season.
Dolling (Liverpool, England) is representing the Bears on the prestigious watch list after starting in every match he appeared in during the 2020-21 season, while logging over 1,000 minutes in MSU'S midfield. He ranked second last season in the MVC in shots on goal with 16 and fourth in total shots with 27.
Both players were named to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America team earlier this month.
The Bears kick off their regular season at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday, August 26 at home against Belmont.
