Women’s Golf Finishes Fourth at MVC Championships

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Missouri State women's golf team carded a 948 to finish fourth at the MVC Championships at Bogey Hills Country Club on Tuesday.

Abby Cavaiani paced the Bears by shooting a 78 in the final round to finish tied for second at, 78-75-78 – 231 to garner all-conference honors. In addition to garnering all-conference honors, she was awarded the Elite-17 award which honors the highest achievement in academics and athletics in the MVC. Cavaiani is no stranger to success at the MVC Championships, as the sophomore won the individual title in 2019.

Overall, MSU carded a 310-312-326 – 948, finishing four strokes behind third-place Illinois State. Evansville finished tied with UNI atop the leaderboard at 942. Therefore, a playoff was needed to determine the winner as the Purple Aces prevailed to take home the team title. Evansville's Sophia Rohleder was the individual champion at 75-74-80 – 229, edging out Cavaiani and Emily Snelling of UNI by two strokes.

Faith Belmear was just outside of the top-10 as she finished tied in 12th with a score of 74-76-87 – 237. Joining Belmear in the top-20 was Johanna Wollenhaupt, who had a strong final day as she shot a 79, finishing tied for 15th (82-78-79 – 239).

Rounding out the MSU scoring was Bridget Schulte, who tied for 25th (80-83-82) and Brooke Newell, who finished in a three-way tie for 34th (78-84-90 – 252).

The MVC Championships conclude the 2020-2021 MSU women's golf season.
