VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Missouri State women's tennis team looked impressive in its first MVC road match as the Bears defeated Valparaiso, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Courts of NWI in Valparaiso, Ind.  
 
Missouri State gained the early advantage by securing the doubles point for the seventh time this season. Hannah Sisirak and Alyson Piskulic defeated Valpo's Amanda Tabanera and Isabella Schoolcraft in the No. 2 spot, 6-1 to give the Bears their first win in doubles play. MSU then clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 match as Mara Presot and Mary Houston won a nailbiter over Demi Jhaveri and Allison McConnell of Valparaiso (7-5). 
   
MSU extended its lead in the No. 6 position with Claire Martin defeating Isabella Schoolcraft, 6-3, 6-0. In the No. 3 spot, Tiffani Nash swept Amanda Tabanera of Valparaiso, 6-3, 6-0. Nash's 12 wins in dual matches are the most by an MSU freshman in over a decade. 
 
The Bears clinched the win in the No. 1 match when Hana Sisirak defeated Valpo's Claire Czerwonka, 6-1, 7-5. The hosts got on the board with a win in the No. 2 position as Olivia Czerwonka scored a three-set win over Ellie Burger (6-4, 4-6, 0-6). Taylor Shaw provided insurance for MSU as she defeated Mia Bertino of Valparaiso in the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 7-6.  
 
Valpo added its second point in the final match of the day as Allison McConnel defeated Mary Houston in the No. 5 match (6-4, 1-6, 7-6). 
   
The Bears (8-9, 2-1 MVC) will be back in action on April 17-18 when they travel to Iowa for matches with UNI and Drake.
