
Beach Bears Shut Out Ottawa on Day Two of Bear Challenge

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State beach volleyball team rebounded with a 5-0 shut out of Ottawa in its second dual of the Bear Challenge on a rainy Thursday morning. Â

"I am proud of the bounce back this morning," head coach Russ Friedland said. "From top to bottom I saw vast improvement on the little details that each pair reflected on from yesterday which is encouraging. We asked them to be more specific and sweat the small stuff and we did that with a great result."Â

The Bears' (5-2) got off to a hot start in the No. 4 position as Tory Penick and Pamela Jaime dominated Dennisa Dafay and Jessica Gibson of Ottawa (21-5, 21-8). Brooke Plessner and Gala Galabova continued their dominance in the No. 5 spot sweeping the Braves' Allie Bauer and Elisa Haug, 21-9 and 23-21. Â

Missouri State clinched the dual in the No. 2 match as Chloe Tome and Grace Cook swept Ottawa's Taylor Mobley and Adrianna Skipper, 21-9, 21-10. With the win, Tome and Cook advanced to 6-0 on the season, which is the best start by any duo in program history.Â

In the No. 3 spot Parker McAllen and Kylee Davis made quick work of the Braves' defeating Stefanie Mitchell and Courtney Collins, 21-8, 21-17. MSU completed its day with Chloe Filipski and Tylar Garrett defeating Ting Sesa and Hannah Murray of Ottawa, 21-13, 21-12.Â

The Bears will continue Bear Challenge play tomorrow with matches against Ottawa (11 a.m.) and Central Arkansas (5 p.m.).Â
