SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State swimming and diving programs performances were highlighted by 11 individual wins and four relay wins during a dominant evening at Hammons Student Center on Friday against Indiana State and Missouri S&T. The men currently lead Missouri S&T, 102-45 while the women lead Indiana State, 104-63.
Missouri State got things started by winning the women's 200 freestyle relay as the quartet of
Libby Howell,
Yuliya Zubina,
Jordan Wenner and
Anna Miller swam a 1:35.07. The MSU squad of
Anna Lucas,
Hannah Amelung,
Kellie Fischer and
Ulyana Zubina (1:37.10) followed up in third. Rounding out the MSU efforts in sixth-place was
Grace Beahan, Sam Hietpas,
Vera Margula (1:43.78).
In the men's 200 freestyle relay, Brunno Suzuki,
Michael Hampel, AJ Huskey and
James Vaughn were victorious with a time of 1:24.36. Robbie Hill,
Reese Hodgins,
Jonathan Hill and Bruno Guerra (1:26.25) followed in third.
Sami Roemer continued her strong performance this season, winning the women's 200 IM clocking in a season-best, 2:08.28. Following Roemer was
Kelly Sego (2:11.23) in fourth,
Anika Lam (2:15.17) in fifth and
Sira Limbu (2:17.57) in seventh.
"We have seen some good results and have really been improving," Roemer said. "A big part of our in improvement is that we are pushing each other every day at practice. We have a lot of depth on our team, which is a great environment to have everyday training."
The MSU men swept their 200 IM with
Arthur Cury (1:52.85) taking first, Huskey (1:54.24) in second and Suzuki (1:54.30) in third. Rounding out the Bears was
Tyler Lewis (1:57.86) in fifth-place.
Howell continued her winning ways by taking the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.55. Beahan (5:10.38) followed in fourth, Hietpas (5:15.17) finished fifth and
Alex Thorson (5:16.31) placed sixth.
On the men's side, Missouri State went 1-2 in the 500 free, with
Pawel Krawczyk winning the race in 4:34.47 and Dylan Moffat following at 4:37.01.
Jonathan Hill clocked a 4:51.98 to finish sixth.
The Bears finished 1-2 in the women's 100 breaststroke, with
Alessia Puleo clocking a 1:06.18 to win the event and
Yuliya Zubina following right behind in 1:06.30.
Cabrini Johnson (1:07.99) rounded out the MSU efforts with a fifth-place finish.
Hampel and Nick Schuster replicated the women's performance with a 1-2 finish of their own as Hampel won the event in 57.26 while Schuster clocked in at 58.24. Drew Watts placed fifth, registering a time of 59.81.
In the women's 200 backstroke, Sego led the way with a 2:07.50 to finish third.
Vera Margula (2:07.66), Sami Roemer (2:07.97) and
Kellie Fischer (2:11.80) placed fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively.
Robbie Hill was victorious in the men's 200 backstroke, registering a time of 1:50.29 while
Brek Stukerjurgen (1:58.33) followed in fourth.
Miller collected her sixth individual win of the season by taking the women's 100 freestyle in 51.05 while Wenner placed second with a time of 52.88. The duo of Lucas (53.70) and
Ulyana Zubina (54.59). Hananh Amelung swam a 53.75 in the B heat.
Cury garnered his second win of the evening in the men's 100 freestyle by registering a 45.88, while Guerra recorded a third-place finish in 47.42. Suzuki (47.42) took fourth and
Reese Hodgins (47.65) followed in fifth. In the men's B heat
Jonathan Hill swam a 47.96 while Drew Watts clocked in at 48.42.
"I felt like my performance was pretty good tonight," Cury reflected. I posted my best times of the season so far, and we are going in the right direction as a team."
In the women's 200 butterfly, freshman
Payton Smith continued her impressive performance by winning the event with a time of 2:05.98.
Sira Limbu (2:12.98) placed third while
Anika Lam (2:17.64) finished fifth.
The Missouri State men swept the 200 butterfly as AJ Huskey led the way with a 1:51.25, followed by Krawczyk (1:51.47) in second and Lewis (1:52.49) in third. Vaughn rounded out the top-five, courtesy of a 1:57.43 time.
Sego,
Yuliya Zubina, Roemer and Miller won the women's 400 medley relay by clocking a 3:49.67. In third was Howell, Puleo,
Ulyana Zubina and Wenner (3:55.33), while Fischer, Johnson, Limbu and Amelung placed (4:04.75) fifth. Rounding out MSU was Beahan, Hietpas, Smith and Lucas (4:09.66) in sixth.
The men capped the evening by winning the 400 medley relay as Robbie Hill, Schuster, Krawczyk and Cury finished with a time of 3:21.70. Guerra, Hampel, Lewis and Hodgins (3:25.72) followed in third and Stukerjurgen, Watts, Vaughn and Moffatt (3:35.18) placed fifth.
In diving action Adrianna Avila (239.40) placed second,
Hailey Rissinger (223.97) took third and
Courtney Stanbury (209.85) finished fourth on the 1-meter boards.
In men's 3-meter diving
John David Spence (322.65) finished first and
Trevor Fischer (265.80) placed second.
The duals will conclude tomorrow with start time set for 10:15 a.m. The 10-member senior class of
