Volleyball Bears Stumble at Indiana State
November 01, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State used runs of at least 5-0 in each set to grab a 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-14) victory over the Missouri State volleyball team Monday evening at ISU Arena.
Missouri State fell to 14-11 overall and 5-8 in Missouri Valley Conference matches, and the Sycamores moved past the Bears in the standings at 13-9 and 5-7 in league contests.
The Bears rallied from a 9-1 deficit in the first set to pull even at 19-apiece, only to see the Sycamores rattle off a 5-0 run to set point despite Missouri State finishing with six blocks in the opening period.
The second set included 11 ties and five lead changes, and the Bears led 21-18 before another 5-0 ISU run proved difficult to overcome. Even so, Amelia Flynn and Lindsay Lahr each had kills to earn MSU set points before two Sycamore kills followed by a block gave ISU the win.
A 7-0 run for the Sycamores gave the home team a 15-6 lead in the third set and the Bears never recovered, and ISU finished with statistical advantages of 51-31 in kills, .242-.147 in hitting percentage, 48-46 in digs and 4-0 in aces.
Missouri State equaled a season high with 13 blocks, with Flynn and Maddy Bushnell stuffing four apiece to share high honors.
Lahr's seven kills led the offense and Flynn had 13 digs.
The Bears continue their three-match road swing with a weekend trip to Iowa, where they face Drake at 6 p.m. Friday and UNI at 5 p.m. Saturday.
