SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Missouri State men's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational on Friday.Â

"These guys continue to improve as we move through the early part of the season and get acclimated to racing again," head coach Dave Collins said. I love the energy we had on the pool deck for all three sessions. Even when a race would not go our way the guys kept supporting each other. That speaks volumes about our upperclassmen leadership."

Michael Hampel swam a season-best 1:23.56 to take third in the day's first event.

Robbie Hill, Hampel, James Vaughn and
Pawel Krawczyk led the MSU to a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:19.56.

Robbie Hill, Jonathan Hill, Hampel and Krawcyzk then closed out the invitational by swimming a season-best 3:02.78 in the 400 free relay to garner a second-place finish.
In the 800 free relay, Krawczyk, Moffatt, Andres and Jonathan Hill led the Bears to a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 6:43.41.

"Coming to South Bend to compete against the Irish is always a blast," Hampel said. "It was fun to see our team battle and race tough against such high-level competition. This is a nice early meet in our season to build upon moving forward. I am extremely proud of our guys."

Hampel posted two top-three performances as he placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.91) and third in the 100 breaststroke (55.22).

Freshman Dylan Moffatt continued his impressive performances as the Independence Iowa product swam a 15:16.47 to finish second in the 1650 free. Moffatt's time was a personal best and the 25th fastest among all collegiate swimmers this season.

"It was great to get the opportunity to race the 1650 free," Moffatt reflected. "Overall the race felt good. I trust the training behind me and just went for it. Training in college is a big adjustment and the hard work has really paid off"

Krawcyzk (15:39.36) and Andres (16:09.80) followed right behind Moffatt in the 1650 free in third and fourth-place, respectively.

 In the 500 free, Krawczyk (4:23.38) and Moffatt (4:28.11) finished fourth and fifth as both set season-best marks. Krawczyk was just two one-hundredths of a second behind Notre Dame's Max Miranda, who finished the event in third.

 Robbie Hill had an impressive showing in the 200 IM as he recorded a fourth-place finish while swimming a 1:51.43, which is the fastest time among all Bears this season in the event. Hill also swam a 1:49.28 200 backstroke to take second in the event, shattering his previous season-best by over four seconds.

Freshman A.J. Huskey made an impressive collegiate debut in the 100 free as he finished in second while clocking in at 47.14.Â

Krawczyk, Vaughn, Tyler Lewis, and Dylan Moffatt finished 2-5 in the 200 butterfly to garner nine points for the MSU scoring efforts.

 In diving action, Michael Claunch and John David Spence recorded a pair of top-five finishes. Claunch took second on the 1-meter boards (309.00) to record his second zone-cut this season, while Spence followed in third (245.40). Trevor Fischer also pitched in to the scoring efforts on the 1-meter boards after posting 243.38.

In 3-meter diving action, Spence (300.98) and Claunch (285.30) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Spence's mark of 300.98 was a personal best.Â

"I'm proud of the divers and their performances today," Spence said. "We got a good chance to see the work we've been putting in over the last few months. We gave it our all and performed great. I cannot wait to take this momentum to SMU next week. We could not be in a better position for getting ready for conference."

 Overall, No. 18 Notre Dame took home the victory as they outscored MSU 268-86.

 The MSU men resume competition on Jan. 30, as they travel to Dallas to face SMU. The meet starts at 11 a.m. The MSU women compete next on Feb. 13
