STILLWATER, Okla. – Missouri State couldn't register a hit against Oklahoma State's Kelly Maxwell and dropped its final game of the Mizuno Classic, 11-0 to the No. 14 Cowgirls here Sunday.
Â
The Bears (7-12) closed the books on a 1-4 weekend in Oklahoma, displaying relentless performances highlighted in an 8-0 win over Murray State on Friday and an extra-inning heartbreaker to No. 6 Oklahoma yesterday.
Â
Maxwell (6-3) tossed her second no-hitter of the year, retiring 15 of the 17 hitters she face while striking out eight. The OSU southpaw recorded a perfect game earlier this year against Florida A&M in another five-inning outing.
Â
Hannah Heinrichs and
Madison Hunsaker were the two Bears to reach safely, drawing a pair of walks for the only blemishes to Maxwell's line for the day.
Â
Hunsaker registered four strikeouts in her 2.0 innings of relief. She replaced Dickerson (4-5), who went 7.1 innings last night against Oklahoma, in the bottom of the second to try and extinguish the hot-hitting OSU lineup.
Â
OSU (18-5) utilized the long ball to seize an early advantage, hitting home runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. With gusty conditions at Cowgirl Stadium, Alysen Febrey smacked a solo shot in the first, followed by a two-run dinger from Kiley Naomi in the second.
Â
After adding a run in the third, a six-run fourth inning delivered the final gut-punch to an MSU squad facing its second straight top-15 team. OSU batted around in the inning with the first five hitters reaching safely.Â
Bailey Greenlee entered the circle for her second appearance to record all three outs in the home half of the fourth.
Â
Missouri State gets into MVC play with a doubleheader versus Southern Illinois on Wednesday, March 11. The Bears will make their season debut at Killian Stadium with game times against the Salukis scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
