Swim Bears Travel to Carbondale for MAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State men's swimming & diving squad aims to claim its 21st conference trophy as the Bears trek to Carbondale, Ill. for the Mid-American Conference Championships taking place March 4-7 at Shea Natatorium.

The Bears hold the MAC's coveted top time in 10 events, nearly sweeping the freestyle portion. Newcomer Arthur Cury and senior Antonio Thomas pace MSU, sharing three MAC-best times apiece. Cury holds the 100 free (44.66), 200 free (1:36.89), and 200 IM (1:47.88) record, while Thomas produced top performances in the long-distance 1000 free (9:11.30), 1650 free (15:08.55), and the 400 IM (3:54.45).

Pawel Krawczyk and Michael Hampel contribute to the Bears' top marks, each holding a pair of MAC-best finishes. Heading into the championship as the MAC's reigning freshman swimmer of the year, Krawczyk adds to his impressive resume with a pair of chart-topping marks in the 500 free (4:20:20) and 200 butterfly (1:47.23). Hampel rounds out the Bears' MAC leaders, sweeping the 100 (53.99) and 200 breaststroke (1:57.47) events.

In the individual events, the Bears are well represented with a total of 40 top-five marks on the MAC leaderboard.

MSU dominates the MAC's relay standings, clinching season-high marks in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 200 medley, and 400 medley team races.

On the diving boards, Michael Claunch leads the pack with MSU season-high marks on the 1-and 3 meter dives.

Championship action will take place Wednesday, March 4 – Saturday, March 7 at the Shea Natatorium in Carbondale, Ill.
 
Wednesday's action will include the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. The following day, individual events will commence, with prelims and finals taking place for the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 1-meter dive (1-8), and 200 freestyle relay.
 
Swimming & diving events continue on Friday with a mix of individual and team events. Prelims and finals includes the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay.
 
The championship concludes on Saturday with finals in the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, 3-meter diving, and the 400 freestyle relay.
