SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Missouri State's men's swimming and diving team showcased several solid performances in Saturday's final day of the Shamrock Invitational at Rolfs Aquatic Center. The MSU men finished with 450 points through the two-day meet.
"This weekend was a good evaluator for us," said head coach
Dave Collins. "We saw how our athletes reacted to a challenging meet format and some great competition, and I am looking forward to the last phase of the season."
Pawel Krawczyk continued his impressive meet showing, turning in another couple top-10 swims for the Bears. His third-place time in the 1650 free (15:21.45) marked MSU's highest finish in the invitational, which he capped with a seventh-best swim in the 200 fly (1:48.73). Teammate
Antonio Thomas (15:26.88) followed Krawczyk in the 1650 free, placing fifth in the event.
MSU paced the B-heat 200 breast, seeing
Conner Funke (2:02.06) and
Michael Hampel (2:02.89) record the ninth and eleventh best overall times, respectively.
The Bears began the final session with multiple B-heat finishes in the 200 back and 100 free.
Jonathan Hill (1:49.21) and Ripp (1:49.50) touched the wall back-to-back for 14
th and 15
th place in the 200 back, while
Jacob Schultz (46.14) and
Samuel Senn (46.16) led the MSU finishers in the 100 free with 15
th and 16
th times.
"This meet provides a great opportunity to swim against some stiff competition and prepare ourselves as we look to the conference championship," said Ripp. "As a team we performed very well and it was awesome seeing everyone cheering for one another."
MSU's 3-meter diving efforts were led by
John David Spence, who paced the group with a 267.65 total on the high dive.
Up next, the MSU men prepare for the Mid-American Conference Championship, taking place March 4-7 in Carbondale, Ill.
