Lady Bears Take Down Sycamores, 76-55

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The 22nd-ranked Missouri State Lady Bears jumped out to a 20-point lead after 13 minutes Friday evening and coasted to a 76-55 victory at Indiana State inside the Hulman Center.

Missouri State (15-3, 5-1 Missouri Valley Conference) tied a season high with 10 3-pointers, with Elle Ruffridge shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and Alexa Willard adding three more on the way to a game-high 23 points.

Willard scored 13 points in the first period, including a personal 8-0 run to a 17-6 lead with 4:10 to play, and MSU led by double digits for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Bears went up 30-10 after a 5-0 run to begin the second quarter and took a 39-24 lead into the break.

The lead remained between 13 and 20 points until an 11-0 run in the third quarter ended with Willard scoring a fast-break layup off one of Mya Bhinhar's five assists for a 57-33 lead with 2:26 on the clock.

Missouri State led by at least 15 points for the rest of the contest, shooting 49.2 percent overall and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The defense held the Sycamores (2-17, 0-7) to 37.5 percent shooting and grabbed 10 steals from 21 Sycamore turnovers.

Willard's 15th career 20-point game paced 10 Lady Bears in the scoring column, Brice Calip matched a career high with seven assists, and Franklin hauled in a game-high nine rebounds as MSU led 39-34 in that category. Sydney Wilson added a season-high seven boards, and Emily Gartner tied a career high with three blocks.

The Lady Bears stay in the Hoosier State for a 1 p.m. Sunday game at Evansville (3-15, 0-7). The Purple Aces lost to Southern Illinois at home on Friday by a 70-57 final.
