Bear Bites:
  • MSU's men's swimming and diving team concludes its regular season at the Shamrock Invitational this weekend, taking a hiatus until the Mid-American Conference championship March 4-7. Last year, Blair Bish and Artur Osvath combined for three pool records at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
  • The Bears swept Evansville at HSC Pool to open 2020, winning all 26 relay, individual, and diving events. Five MSU swimmers collected multiple individual wins in the conference rout.
  • MSU concluded 2019 with a sweep over crosstown rival Drury, the women besting the Panthers by a 131.5-111.5 margin, while the men's team edged Drury by a 122-119 tally.
  • The Bears produced a solid all-around performance including 16 individual victories, led by Libby Howell (3) and Antonio Thomas (2).
  • MSU's performance nabbed them a pair of swimmer of the week honors, with Howell taking the MVC honor while Samuel Senn represented the Bears for the MAC.
  • Anna Miller and Antonio Thomas garnered swimmer of the week honors after producing standout efforts at the SMU Invite, with Miller setting a record-break finish in the 100 free while Thomas dominated the 1650 free.
  • The Bears produced six individual titles over the three-day meet, taking both 500 freestyle races (Howell & Krawczyk), 400 IM (Radloff), 1650 freestyle (Howell & Thomas), and the 100 freestyle (Miller).
  • MSU swept the Salukis in both squads' conference opener, with the men cruising to a 159-82 win while the women edged past Southern Illinois by a slimmer 132-111 margin. Both teams combined for 13 first-place individual titles.
  • Senior day proved to be big for the Bears, as they nearly swept the freestyle events and Haley Allen notched her first collegiate win in the 200 butterfly.
  • Libby Howell and Antonio Thomas set the Bears on a winning course in the opening individual event against the Salukis, each handily securing the top spot in the 1000 freestyle by a solid 10-plus second differential. Both swimmers would also run away with the 500 freestyle later in the conference dual.
  • The Bears swam close against both nationally-ranked Missouri squads, impressing in the freestyle portion with runner-up finishes from Libby HowellAntonio Thomas, and Samantha Hietpas.
  • Saturday's meet signals the beginning of league swims, as MSU starts Missouri Valley Conference and Mid-American Conference competition.
  • MSU checked the win column at the ISU invite, as the men edged past the University of Indianapolis 217-153 while the women compiled a 214.5-154.5 rout of host and fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Indiana State. UIndy narrowly passed the Bears, 187.5-179.5, splitting the women's results in their second-consecutive double dual.
  • Arthur Cury impressed on the men's side, picking up four individual wins in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, and 100 free. His 200 IM and 200 free times top the MAC and rank among the top-25 nationally.
  • Michael Hampel earned Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors after turning in three individual wins in the 100 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 200 breaststroke events. He also contributed to the Bears' first-place finish in the 200 medley.
  • Freshman Samantha Hietpas made a splash in the Kansas Double Dual's opening long-distance event, beating out Kansas by nearly three seconds in the 1000 freestyle. The win signaled the first in her collegiate career.
  • Michael Claunch swept the diving events against South Dakota, posting first-place efforts in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
  • Missouri State's women and men's swimming and diving each claimed a second-place team finish among 11 in-state schools at the Show-Me Showdown, amassing 387.5 and 413 points, respectively.
  • Reigning freshman of the year pair Pawel Krawczyk and Alex Thorson produced stellar performances in the 500 freestyle, with Krawczyk placing third (4:35.57) and Thorson taking fourth (5:05.54) in the long-distance event at the Show-Me Showdown. The duo each tacked on an additional top-10 finish in the 200 freestyle.
